On-Site Septic Systems

The Environmental Health Services division receives applications for the construction or expansion of individual septic systems. When a septic system fails, the staff also reviews applications for repairs. The application process is simple:
  

1. Application form is submitted to the health department either in person or by mailing to: St. Mary’s County Health Department; Environmental Health Services; P.O. Box 316; Leonardtown, MD 20650.

• Mound Septic System (New Construction) contractor use only

• Underground Septic System (New Construction) contractor use only

• Septic Repair homeowner or contractor use

• Septic System Construction Requirements   contractor use

2. Perc testing (internal Perc Testing Program page) is done.

3. Site plan submitted by a Maryland registered land surveyor is analyzed.

4. Upon approval, construction can begin.

5. Before tank and fields are covered, the septic system must undergo a final inspection by the health department.
