On-Site Septic Systems

Minimize

The Environmental Health Services division receives applications for the construction or expansion of individual septic systems. When a septic system fails, the staff also reviews applications for repairs. The application process is simple:

  1. Application form is submitted to the health department either in person or by mailing to: St. Mary’s County Health Department; Environmental Health Services; P.O. Box 316; Leonardtown, MD 20650.

  1. Perc testing (internal Perc Testing Program page) is done.

  2. Site plan submitted by a Maryland registered land surveyor is analyzed.

  3. Upon approval, construction can begin.

  4. Before tank and fields are covered, the septic system must undergo a final inspection by the health department.
