Maryland Children’s Health Program (MCHP) is a health insurance program for children up to age 19 and pregnant women of any age. This program provides comprehensive health care to children and pregnant women in families with low to average incomes. The Maryland Children's Health Insurance Program is designed to cover health care costs. Income before taxes and other deductions is counted to determine eligibility.

The application process is easy. The MCHP Application Form is available online and at the following locations:

  • St. Mary’s County Health Department

  • St. Mary’s County Department of Social Services

  • St. Mary’s Hospital Admitting Office

  • most doctor’s offices

BE SURE TO SIGN YOUR APPLICATION FORM. Health Department MCHP Eligibility Unit staff will process the application within 10 working days.

MCHP Eligibility Unit staff is available daily to assist clients and process enrollment applications. No appointments are necessary. Walk-ins are welcome.

MCHP staff will advise families about local providers and the Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) they accept, and will refer families to other assistance programs as needed.
