Opie the Otter

Minimize

Being healthy “otter” be fun!

Meet Opie, St. Mary’s County Health Department’s river otter mascot. Opie does a special job for the health department. He is taking messages of good health to children all over St. Mary’s County. Opie is full of ideas about what children and their families “otter do” to live stronger, healthier lives. Early childhood immunization, child safety, hand washing, regular dental care, and preventing overexposure to the sun and heat are all ideas that Opie wants to share with St. Mary’s County kids. More importantly, Opie wants kids to take these messages to heart and make good health habits a part of their lives. Kids are smart. But they want to have fun too – just like Opie. Having fun and being healthy go hand in hand.

The Kiwanis club of St. Mary's County and St. Mary's County Health Department are partners in promoting awareness of children's health issues.  Opie was inducted as an active member of the Kiwanis in 2007.
