Health Department Offers Free FluMist Vaccinations to Eligible Children at County Fair

LEONARDTOWN, MD (September 21, 2015) – The St. Mary’s County Health Department will provide free FluMist® vaccinations to eligible school age children at the St. Mary’s County Fair.  Health department staff will be in attendance at the fair Friday, September 25 through Sunday, September 27 from 9:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., weather permitting.  Flu vaccination is the best defense against the seasonal flu. FluMist® is a nasal spray vaccine that provides protection against the flu. Children with a history of severe allergic reaction to a previous dose of influenza vaccine, who are allergic to eggs, or who have asthma or have had a history of wheezing within the past 12 months should not be given FluMist®.

There will be a limited supply of vaccine, so vaccinations will be provided on a first come, first served basis.  A parent or guardian must be present to complete a consent form. For questions about FluMist®, please call the health department at 301-475-4330.
