Low-cost Option to Getting Healthy in the New Year

LEONARDTOWN, MD.  (Jan. 13, 2014) – Almost two weeks into the new year and people will begin looking for alternative and effective ways to stay on track with their health goals for 2014. St. Mary’s County Health Department continues to offer county residents a low-cost, time-limited program to improve their eating and physical activity habits. The St. Mary’s County Alive! program is an online tool proven to be effective in helping people eat better and be more active – essential steps in weight management and preventing chronic diseases. This evidence-based program is supported by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and recommended by the U.S. Community Preventive Services Task Force as an effective strategy to help people improve their lifestyle.

The Alive! program provides adult residents a six-month subscription for only $5. Residents are provided with online feedback and coaching, which guides participants towards healthier goals and achievable steps towards wellness. Additionally, special rates are available to St. Mary’s County employers who would like to subsidize the subscription for their employees as a way to encourage employee wellness. The Health Department is encouraging St. Mary’s County adults, employers, and health care providers to consider this evidence-based program as they work to improve their own health, the health of their employees, and the health of their patients.
