Health Department Brings Healthy Eating and Active Living Program to St. Mary’s

LEONARDTOWN, MD.  (September 10, 2013) – In an effort to get adults to eat healthier and be more active, the St. Mary’s County Health Department is now offering county residents a special, time-limited opportunity to improve their eating and physical activity habits. The St. Mary’s County Alive! program is an online tool proven to be effective in helping people eat better and be more active – essential steps in weight management and preventing chronic diseases.  This evidence-based program is supported by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and recommended by the U.S. Community Preventive Services Task Force as an effective strategy to help people improve their lifestyle.  Through online feedback and coaching, the Alive! program guides participants towards healthier goals and achievable steps towards wellness.

Through a cooperative agreement with the St. Mary’s County Health Department, the creator of the Alive! program is offering a six month subscription for only $5 to interested St. Mary’s County adult residents. Additionally, the Health Department has arranged for special rates to be available to St. Mary’s County employers who would like to subsidize the subscription for their employees as a way to encourage employee wellness.

The Health Department is encouraging St. Mary’s County adults, employers, and health care providers to consider this evidence-based program as they work to improve their own health, the health of their employees, and the health of their patients.
